Dj Loko interview. Remix winner Nebula 2 Atheama

Dj Loko has been djing since the tender age of 13, He first started playing out at local night’s in and around his local town of Glastonbury. Soon after he gained a reputation around the area, he became resident at a night called “Foundation” where he got to play along side of the biggest names in drum and bass. This led him onto residencies at bigger nights one of which was “Lowdown” which was promoted by Dj Redfoxx of Trouble On Vinyl and Breakbeat Kaos. Dj LoKo started producing tracks when he was 14 and had an ear for making tracks that would go off on the dance floor, After putting djing to one the side and concentrating on producing he started to establish him self as a young and up and coming producer. 2007 has been a very constructive year for Dj Loko getting his first big play out at Infidelity in Bristol and getting tracks played on Radio 1xtra as well as winning the Reinforced Records competition.

Dj Name

Dj LoKo

When did you first get into dj'ing?

I first got into djing when I was 13 thanks to my best mate (Dj Darkotic) him and his brother used to mix when I went round there after school or at lunch from here I started to get a passion for drum and bass and started mixing when I was 13.

Have you had release out before? If so what labels?

Nope im unsigned.

Who are your main influences?

God..... hmmmm..... when i first started listening to dnb i really wanted to be like Mampi swift.. he was at the time killing the dance. production wise dillinja was very much my idol with tunes like grimey, thugged out bitch etc. but now I get influence from everyone..

You are the first to win the back 2 you remix projects what does this mean to you?

This is huge for me i was unsigned and pretty much unheard of before this, if im 100% honest I never thought i would win or even get close to winning, reinforced is such a legendary label I was expecting to get laughed at for the remix I entered... just shows its always worth having ago.

What was the best part of remixing the old classics?

Im a HUGE fan of remixing, I love taking others peoples ideas and adding my own lick to them. I knew i had to pull all my skills out for this remix but also wanted to keep the original bits due to the fact it was such a classic tune..

You are now joining a elite set of dj’s and producers who first started on Reinforced, how does this make you feel?

No words can describe how i have been feeling of late... i still cant actually believe that my tune is coming out on reinforced and i won the remix comp.. in comparison this is like going from the no league to the premiership..

Do you have a favourite Reinforced artist?

4hero... better places is one of the tunes that got me into the dance music scene and the new tune is a stonker as well.

Do you have any studio tips or advice for the future entrants?

Yea, they like filthy tunes so make it dirty, also keep it original..
