Dangerous D . Remix winner Nebula 2 Atheama
Dangerous D has been Dj'ing since the early 'Quest' days (for those that can remember way back then). As the rave scene evolved, he began to play out locally, & landed himself on a few pirate radio stations that started to do their own events. Dangerous D played at these events. He won a local Dj competition in which featured a wide range of Dj's playing all styles of music. He has since featured on events such as Telepathy, Hysteria , One Nation, Helter Skelter, Sidewinder, Accelerated Culture, Global Gathering, Raveology, & Random Concept to name a few. He has also played around Europe. He won the chance to play for BBC Radio 1xtra in 2005, & since then he has been producing tracks & working with artists within the DnB scene such as Mc $pyda, Fearless, Kenny Ken, & currently Red Banditt.
Dj Name
Dangerous D
When did you first get into dj'ing?
I first got into DJ’ing from around the time Quest & Amazon were ending. Those were wicked times man.
Have you had release out before? If so what labels?
I had a few tracks ready for release, one was due to be released on a Canada label, and the other one was coming out in the UK on Mix n Blen. Due to no fault of the labels, this was aborted. I won’t delve in too much as I don’t want to slate anyone, but a certain artist who I was working with was causing problems with the two labels.
Who are your main influences?
There are too many to mention so I’ll just list a few: Mampi Swift (back in the day Charges early releases, Rough Sounds) Zinc Present; Variety of production skills D&B wise, Bryan Gee & Hype (two wicked DJ’s)
You are the first to win the back 2 you remix projects what does this mean to you?
It means a lot to me as I have watched and heard some wicked stuff come from Nebula and Reinforced stables and to actually have a chance to remix one of my favorite old skool classics ‘Atheama’ from their label and give it a new skool flavor and get a release I feel is an amazing achievement.
What was the best part of remixing the old classics?
The challenge of remixing an old skool track into an upfront DnB track with some of its hard core elements still maintained as I didn’t want it to lose too much of its originality that was fun. Luckily I had the original track on vinyl so I could compare the two tracks against one and other.
You are now joining a elite set of dj’s and producers who first started on Reinforced, how does this make you feel?
I’m excited as I feel privileged to be working along side those DJ/Producers who have had a lot of influences in the scene’s progression, to where it is today. I can only imagine good stuff coming from their input and mine.
Do you have a favourite Reinforced artist?
To be honest I couldn’t really say as there has been a lot of good artists from that stable which I think are good, the only thing I can say is that ‘Atheama’ which was originally made by Nebula has played a part in my musical direction and influence as a DJ/Producer.(so thanks Nebula’s 1991)
Do you have any studio tips or advice for the future entrants?
Take your time to develop the sounds you are feeling. It is good to feel someone’s style, but its best to be as original and creative to create your own style, also make sure your tracks are as clear as possible.
Anything else to say about the music scene or production?
The music scene is a hard scene to break into, so I am glad there are competitions like this especially for those who are just coming into the scene.
I’m looking to release some of my tracks which are going down well, on Shan Counter Recordings. I’m also currently going in the studio & collaborating with Escape on track coming soon.
You can catch me on Cardiff Radio Station 98.7fm 19th November 2007 special guest show.
